Soccer and Chickens
No, our chickens don't play soccer! But, they really need to learn how to stand up for themselves! As soon as we open the chicken door so the chickens can come out and peck at the ground and do whatever it is chickens do, the bully ducks chase them all around til the chickens go back in the house. And then the ducks stand guard at the door and refuse to let the chickens back out for hours! It would be funny to watch, except I feel bad for the chickens. It's been so nice out and all they do is get terrorized by the ducks!
Tim and I (well, mostly Tim - but I did help this time!) sectioned off part of the chicken house so that we can add some baby chicks this spring. We're going to go as a family and pick them out - can you say 'headache'????

Hayleigh had her first soccer game today. They lost 4-0, but it was against a team that has already played several games. We've had 2 practices, and one of the practices was in classroom 'learning' about soccer. There has been so much rain!

Hayleigh did quite well for never really playing before (or even paying attention to her siblings' games). Kirsten yelled to Hayleigh that she's 'strong' and can 'beat that yellow girl'. (the other team was wearing yellow) Kirsten then explained to me that she is planning to play soccer this fall and she wants purple cleats because 'purple is my fravit color'.

Spring??
No, probably not quite yet - but it sure has been nice outside for the past several days. We put 3 'farm cleanup' days on the calendar for this month, so hopefully lots of things will get done. Today we are working on partitioning off a section of the chicken house to make room for some new baby chicks! Hayleigh and Kirsten are so excited that we will be getting some babies! We'll take them with us when we go to the tractor supply store to pick out the chickies.
Keenan, Dallin and I were in Richmond, VA this past weekend for a soccer tournament for Dallin. What an awesome weekend! Dallin had some really great games and the team won all 4! Tournament champs!!!

Keenan and I went to a really cute shop while Dallin was hanging out with his team. It's called 'Gather'. I can't seem to get the link to show up - so I'll just give you the website. www.shopgather.com. Check it out - it looked exactly like the photo from the website - red truck and everything.

From Kyle.....
1-14-10
Mom and Dad and Broskies and Sisteriewhatevers,
Well, I just moved to a different house today. Just down the street. Same area, same companion. I had a lot of crap to move. And I think I'm gonna send my green and pin stripe suits home. I never wear them. But it would be great to get 2 more suits 1 black and 1 grey like the ones we got at target. I think that I'm gonna send home the 2 nice shoes also. Cuz I do a lot of walking. A lot.
I hope everything is going well.
I have to say thank you mom and dad for teaching me everything.
We are seeing about 45 people. 5 have baptism dates. Some are really stubborn.
We've been working really hard. And Dad guess what?!
1) I put in blown-in insulation in for the family I was living with.
2) Everyone has come to me for special service projects.
3) I LOVE GRAPEFRUIT.
Tell everyone in the family thanks for the support and the memories that we have. It really helps in this spiritually exhausting work. Our experiences also help with questions. Everyone thinks that you have to be perfect if you're a Mormon. And it is quite the opposite. When you live righteously, you're free. Not uptight!
Well, gotta keep on unpacking. Keep Nampa South II in your prayers. Prayers work.

tell dad not to put his hand under the saw when he is trying to cut. it helped me a lot. i just thought that i would share some advice.
can you send some of those egg rolls out here to me? just kidding
transfers came in and i am staying in the same area, at the same address, just with a different companion.
tell dad i said thank you for all the talks that we had in the van on the way to work, that were about the scriptures. every body is coming to me to ask for help in their class to teach. i am really helping the members understand the why's in the scriptures and the how's. in the gospel principals class, every one just looks at me. like the teacher will start the topic and then just wait for me to put it together through the scriptures for every one. if nothing sparks they just try to start a conversation and when something clicks that would be easy for the other people in the class, that is when i start and then tie in the confusing things for them to understand them easier.
anyway, i have to go shopping now. thanks for teaching me to shop for good deals mom. it is really helpful.

Never a dull moment!
2 weeks ago Tim called me from where he was helping someone with some construction around their house (around 9:30 AM) to let me know that they was working ahead of schedule and he was really happy about how things were going. Then about 40 minutes later I got a call from him that started out "Don't panic. I don't want you to get upset and panic. Everything is going to be okay." Now, I'm no dummy and I noticed the GOING to be okay phrase. I can't even begin to tell you how many calls I've gotten like this! He went on to tell me that he was sitting in the Emergency Room waiting for some stitches because he cut his hand on the table saw that he was using. The saw caught his glove and sucked it right in. He ended up needing 8 stitches in all and on Tuesday this week (2 days ago), he had surgery on his hand to put in a tube that would help the nerve in his thumb re-connect and hopefully regain feeling in his thumb. The surgery was successful, now it's a waiting game to see if the nerve regrows. The doctor also removed a 1 1/2 inch splinter from his hand.

Our cat Misty seems to be a little delusional about what size she actually is. I don't know how she found this at all comfortable.....

Kirsten isn't much for napping anymore, but she wore herself out recently playing Wii and fell asleep in this position:

Dallin trying out a new hairstyle

Keenan is getting ready to start his missionary preparations...

I made a card the other day that I really like

Highways
We have a weather alert system hooked up in the laundry room. We can turn it on manually and listen to the weather just for our area. It also warns us of bad weather - the alarm goes off and then this guy's voice tells us what's going on. The alarm went off last night - we're assuming that it was because the roads were still wet from the rain and the temperatures were dropping which could cause some icy spots. Anyway, Dallin went in to listen to the alert. When he got back to the living room we asked him what the alert was about and he said, "I don't really know. It said something about the highways not being in effect for tonight and tomorrow. Can you drive anywhere if they're not in effect?" With Dallin being the 6th teenager that we've had, I know that this is just "typical teen" - listening half way and then making the rest up!
