Rescue Ranch

Nascar driver Ryan Newman and his wife have an organization around the corner from us called Rescue Ranch. Tim, the kids, and I went to the fall festival that was held there recently. They had lots of animals for the kids to see.

No, we didn't get a new puppy.

Or a bird.

Or a pet snake.

But we did take the cute little witch home with us!

Murray's Mill Fall Festival

Several weeks ago, we took the kids to the Fall Festival at Murray's Mill. Tim and I were walking behind them going in to the Festival, and when I called their names, this is the 'posing' I got when they turned around.

We saw the animals first thing. Seriously, didn't you know that camels were farm animals??

Checking out the toys.

While Tim and the kids explored the mill itself, I sat by the pond and got some pretty photos.

AND of course, we had to go back to the animals!

NO - she is NOT getting one!!

We fed the animals some carrot chips, feed pellets and cracked corn.

Just 3 Kids - 1992

Before Tyler was born in September 1992, Grandmom Keller gave our 3 kids these shirts. Ironically enough, we are back to 'just 3 kids' in the house!

One Year Done!

One year ago today, Ethan entered the MTC! He's been very busy this past year in Arizona. He sent these photos to me this past week with this email: "Fixing washes after heavy rains gave me a blister on my hand from swinging the sledge for about an hour and a half. That blister got infected too and I had to take some antibiotics. Then I also put in tile at the Kunzelman's. And then we had a sports night for the youth playing ultimate and football which was super fun, but hard to do because of my blister. We also committed one of our investigators to teach US the next lesson and in return I'm going to replace her broken window motors in her Jeep. We also got to help some people stand their trees back up because they fell over in the rain. We replanted a HUGE Ocatillo in tons of different spots at the Kunzelman's as well. AND I helped fix a Bobcat and cut more tiles. haha Crazy busy! But here are some pictures!"

Part of My Heart Drove Away....

This has got to be in the top 10 of the hardest things I've ever done - I buckled this precious little girl into her carseat even though she was screaming "Granny Hold Me" and sent her on her way to the West with her parents and her beautiful little sister Aela.
I see lots of travel in our future!

Patriot Day

In a New York minute, the whole world changed. This day makes me remember the horrific events that occurred, but it also brings to mind the many ancestors I have that gave everything to be in this country so that they could live under this flag and what it stands for.

Hornets!

We started noticing one or two hornets a day in the downstairs 'wreck' room. Then we saw three or four a day. Then there were a lot more.Kirsten and I happened to see one fly out of the carport when we were getting home, so we followed it to see where they were getting into the house. YIKES! There was a little gap in the wall, and of course they had found it. Tim sprayed wasp/hornet spray into the hole and within a couple of minutes, the downstairs was swarming!

As most things do with boys, the swatting and killing of the hornets became a game!  If you look closely, you can see cute little Emmy standing by the brown curtain watching the 'boys'.

I had no idea that hornets SMELLED LIKE ROTTING FISH. And so does their nest. Holy Heck that was a smell! Febreeze didn't even come close to 'eliminating' it!

In the aftermath, there are a lot of hornet guts splattered on the walls, floor and ceiling. ugh.
This is about 10 minutes into the 'fun'. I had to leave because of the gag-inducing smell.

First Day of School 2014

Kirsten started 4th grade this year. The bus was supposed to be here at 7:02 am and it came at 6:50 instead. Thank goodness we were already up at the stop because of Kirsten's excitement! She seems to really like her teacher, which is a good thing because her friends ended up in the other 4th grade classes.

Hayleigh started high school! Next week, early morning seminary will start too. I guess she likes high school. She hasn't said she doesn't, so we'll go with a 'yes'!
