Tim's 49th Birthday
Tim turned 49 on January 10th. It's so strange - when we first started dating, we thought 49 year olds were OLD. It doesn't seem so old now!
Anyway, on his birthday, we woke up and started getting ready for church. I happened to look out the bedroom window and saw a cow that I knew was having some issues. Anyone who has worked around cows knows that this mama is in need of help. For those of you who don't know, when a cow gives birth, the calf 'dives' into the world - front feet and head first. This mom had ONE back leg showing. Not good at all. So instead of going to church, Tim put on junk clothes and headed out to assist. Turns out, he had to call the vet in and it took the vet a good amount of time and pulling to get that calf out. The calf obviously was stillborn, but we were able to save the mom. To top it off, when Ethan went down to check the hay at the creek, he found a dead calf there too.
I did make a good dinner and we had good friends of ours come over with a fruit trifle they made for Tim (one of his favorites!), so it wasn't all bad!

Christmas 2015 Recap
This nicely wrapped gift was hiding my present! Years ago, I had seen a hutch in a pottery barn catalog that I loved. Didn't love the price so much though! Tim surprised me with making a copy of the hutch himself (but much better!!).
Watching Kirsten open a gift.
Still waking up :)
Emmy and her new baby.
Aela observing everything. She doesn't miss anything! (and the curl above her ear is SO DARN CUTE!)
Ethan and Dallin went together on a gift for Tim. They also went together and got me a Hobby Lobby gift card. Love those boys!
Tim opening his new sawhorses.
ALL OF THEM TOGETHER! So awesome!
I have a better photo of the hutch I'll post soon. Christmas was lots of fun, even if it felt like summer!

The Weather at Christmas - Bah Humbug!!
Weather in NC for Christmas 2015 was so strange! It reached almost 80 degrees. We had the windows open (even at night - WHAT??) and wore shorts that we had to get back out. The mist was pretty though. It takes odd weather for the mist to roll in from the creeks. I have to say, I'd rather have a cold Christmas. It was hard to shop (the mall had the heat on - UGH) and hard to decorate - who in the heck wants to put up cute little snowmen in 80 degree weather??

Christmas Card Photos part 2
I did eventually get some nice photos - once they realized that I was going to keep making them sit there until I got ones I liked!
This cat...He is so friendly and so great to have around the farm! However, being a boy, he decided to wander a little bit last week. Animal Control picked him up on Dunlap Gate Road (about 4 miles from here!) on Monday after being gone for 8 days. We got our boy back, but he is going to be seeing a vet and losing his desire to walk-about!!

Christmas Card Photo Session
Since we only have the 4 kids at home now to take photos of for our family Christmas cards, one might think that it would be much easier to get a good shot compared to years ago when we had all 8 kids. That wasn't quite the case though!
Kirsten was a little cranky.
The new farm cat was very interested in what we were doing.
The girls got slightly goofy.
There was a nice big hole in the hay.....
which Ethan wanted to see first hand. oy. these kids.
